GCPHN, in partnership with Kindness Company, is hosting a half-day community information session + invitation to co-design workshops.

Care is everyone’s business.  When serious illness, caring responsibilities, dying or grief enters someone’s life, the world doesn’t pause. It speeds up. And too often, people are left doing too much, without enough support, for too long. A Compassionate Community is a simple but powerful idea: Care is not only a medical task, it’s a community responsibility. 

What to expect from this session: 

This welcoming, story-led half-day information session will introduce the Compassionate Communities approach and share what we’re building together on the Gold Coast. You’ll hear lived experience stories, learn what Compassionate Communities is (and isn’t), and explore practical ways we can strengthen support for people across: 

• illness and diagnosis 
• ageing and frailty 
• caring 
• end-of-life 
• grief and bereavement 
• isolation and loneliness 

Who is it for?

This session is for Gold Coast locals and organisations who care about connection, belonging, and making sure no one faces hard times alone. 

You’re warmly invited if you are: 

• A carer, family member, friend or neighbour 
• Living with serious illness, supporting someone who is, or navigating grief 
• A faith or cultural leader, volunteer, or community connector 
• Part of a community group, neighbourhood centre, library, school or service 
• Working in health, aged care, allied health, disability or community care 
• Simply someone who believes we can do care better, together 

You don’t need to be an expert. Your voice matters. 

Why does this matter now? 

Across the Gold Coast, more people are experiencing isolation, systems are stretched, and caring roles are heavier than ever. 

Compassionate Communities helps us build support through four systems of care: 

• Specialist palliative care
• Generalist health care 
• Civic action (community organisations, schools, councils) 
• Natural networks (family, neighbours, friends) 

This work doesn’t replace services; it strengthens what already exists by growing community connection, care skills, and practical support. Because: No one should do hard things alone.
